Who I Can Help

I help people get out of pain, improve alignment and movement, and function better - in their daily lives, or in their recreational sports.

Together we identify underlying causes and compensations related to YOUR pain or dysfunction. Everybody – and every Body – is different. Traumas, overuse, underuse, and misuse, all contribute to body aches, pains, clicks, clunks, weakness, and tightness.

Wherever you are now, through soft tissue treatments, and better movement awareness, you can start your path to Feeling Better, Moving Better, and Living Better!

What is Therapeutic Bodywork and Integrated Manual Therapy?

My overall approach to therapeutic bodywork is based in general neuromuscular re-education: combining soft-tissue treatment with movement exploration and education, to guide you through the process of embodying greater efficiency, more ease, and less discomfort, in your body.

Neuromuscular re-education's main purpose is to work with the soft tissues of the body, to align the musculoskeletal system with the body's central nervous system. Because the central nervous system initiates and maintains pain signaling, neuromuscular re-education is all about relieving pain and dysfunction by alleviating the underlying cause. If a person experiences distortion or biomechanical dysfunction -– often a symptom of a deeper problem – neuromuscular approaches can provide relief.

Integrated Manual Therapies blends interrelated modalities to help the body systems operate and communicate more harmoniously. It is common that a restriction in one system of the body affects another system. Especially with long-term restrictions that have gradually spread strain and tension patterns to other parts of the body. A more comprehensive and holistic approach to treating the body often more effective in these cases.

This approach also helps to:

  • Restore postural alignment, biomechanics, and tissue flexibility

  • Improve venous and lymphatic flow

  • Address compressed nerves, tissue adhesions, and trigger points and that can cause pain

  • Release spasms and hyper-contraction in the tissue

Why Myofascial Release
                Visceral & Craniosacral Therapy?

While I also utilize other modalities and techniques for soft-tissue work, I find Myofascial Release (MFR), Visceral Manipulation (VM) and Craniosacral Therapy (CST/BCST) are holistic approaches that greatly assist in pain management, recovery from injury, and general wellness. They can be gentle, yet deep.

MFR is also excellent for improving athletic performance, instilling a healthier alignment and posture, maintaining vitality, deepening one's awareness of the body, and much more. The results are empowering with lasting sustainable change.

While VM is traditionally used for improving organ function after surgery or injuries, it can also be immensely helpful in alleviating body pain. It is not uncommon for chronic, or even temporary issues with the gut, female pelvic organs, liver, or lungs for instance, to translate into muscular skeletal discomfort.

CST/BCST is an incredibly gentle approach to

structural and soft tissue changes; and also

an excellent method for calming and

balancing the nervous system,

enhancing the body's healing potential.

Soft-tissue therapy is often more effective when we, as humans, learn how our body is working, and and have a chance to explore old movements in a new way, or from a new perspective. I am passionate about empowering people to inhabit their body in new and hopefully life-changing ways.

Breathing and walking are two things most of us have done for decades, yet many of us struggle with pain or health issues that may be tied to things as simple as: how we carry our bodies, how we walk, the shoes we've worn, how we breath, or hold our breath. For instance, it is estimated that 80% of muscular-skeletal issues have a visceral (organ) component; and "exercising" the diaphragm in better breathing is one powerful way we can help move and mobilize our organs (and lymph) up to 25,000 times each day!!!  I love teaching clients to access their diaphragm and breathing muscles more fully – or feel more stable and strong on their feet – effecting their alignment, movement and health.

Conditions I Can Help With

Every person's path through injury and pain is unique; and so is their healing process. All the things that happened to you throughout your lifetime have mingled and merged to form a compensation pattern that is distinctively yours. Techniques are the tools I use to reach into a person and their tissues, but there is no exact technique or protocol that works for each issue. Together we are creating a unique, often evolving "recipe" to address your unique set of mind-body-spirit needs, based on your unique body-history and compensation patterns.

That said, here are some (not all) of the typical complaints and symptoms I often  treat:

Headaches & Migraines

TMJD, Jaw & Tooth pain (Intraoral - inside the mouth, soft-tissue release)

Sinus pain

Vertigo

Neck Pain

Forward Head strain patterns

Repetitive Strain (e.g. Carpal Tunnel and hand/arm pain, numbness or tingling)

Shoulder, Elbow & Wrist pain and tightness

Back pain

Sciatica

Hip, Leg, & Knee pain and tightness

Foot pain and Gait issues

Post-surgical pain and Scar tissue

Visceral/Organ mobility and motility

Digestive Disorders

Edema & Swelling

Shallow Breathing and other breathing issues

Women's Health and Pelvic Floor issues

Insomnia

Upregulated (stressed out) Nervous System

And more...
